Name of your website?L.M. Larry Edmonds, M.A., FMP, CFBE
Your name?
Larry Edmonds
Your Location (city, etc)
Scottsdale
Please give us a short summary of your website?
Cost-effective training and development workshops provided on-site for Arizona organizations, saving time and money by reducing travel time and expense and lodgning expenses.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
To provide knowledge of this service to more Arizona organizations
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Personal website related to my teaching at ASU (2000)
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I conduct the workshops, I should take responsibility and not hide behind a corporate name
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Many companies offer workshops that are located at sites to which the attendees have to travel, pay for food and lodging, and by which they must miss productive work time though that travel. My service brings quality training to the attendee, reducing their organization's costs considerably. An organization can train 25 people in one location for what it might cost to send one person to an out-of-town workshop.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To continue to offer a wider variety of workshops at the sites of Arizona organizations.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Things have turned out nicely since begininng this venture.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Not sure anything would change. This is a relatively unique service and the carved-out niche have been good to me.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I would have to take on additional professionals to keep up with the demand of thw workshops. Luckily, I would have the luxury of hand-picking those folks, since I am literally my own HR department.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Balancing the calendar!
What has been your biggest challenge?
The only real challenges have been to get the word out and the convince organizations that spending more money does not necessarily translate to better training.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Direct mail and surfing. I am always surprised by the number of emails received from folks who are interested in the service and who literally stumbled on it while surfing the net.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
There truly haven't been any real surprses outside of the unusually high volume of email generated by visitors to the site.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
There are no plans to take the site down. Its effectiveness has been quite beneficial.
How much can an organization expect to pay for one- or two-day workshop at their location?
Generally, one-day workshops begin at just $750.00 and two-day workshops begin a only $1300.00. As the need to tailor a workshops to specific needs, there may be a minimal addtional charge.
