According to a blog post at usnews.com (link below), it seems that the hardest part in small business is the second bump, that is called the emerging companies. IT comes when your business conquer the first uphill climb and then suddenly make a pause, and if you are not that cautious, you might find it hard coming out of the pause.
In the post, a book about marketing is featured as well as seven rules for creating a wealthy company by Lisa Nirell.
