What is your website about? Give us a brief overview
OfficeGupshup.com is a space for office gossip and entertainment, where one can laugh and unwind after that long grueling day at work. The website also provides the millions of employees around the globe a unique opportunity and interface to appraise their bosses and pass verdicts on their managers.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We believe that pouring one's heart out helps in reducing stress, anxiety and tensions in life and in turn make us mentally and physically healthy. We want to provide our users the opportunity to let these negative emotions out of their system by exploring and connecting with other boss victims, sharing pranks, office romance stories, embarrassing moments, political office stories and other workplace confessions.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
OfficeGupshup.com is our first website and we launched it in June 2007.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
“Gupshup” in english stands for “Gossip” and that is pretty much the theme of our website. Hence, we finalized on “Office Gupshup” which means “Office Gossip”.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
OfficeGupshup.com lets employees appraise their bosses and share their office confessions anonymously. The website provides a platform for like-minded people to network, express and share their daily office adventures - be it romance, pranks, politics, confessions, workplace revenge, dressing disasters, embarrassing moments and practically everything that happens around the workplace, whilst maintaining anonymity. The website not only provides a platform for users to let out their steam but also encourages the development of its community. The "Gyan Guru" – traditionally a person with unfathomable knowledge - offers advice on various aspects of work and personal life such as career, personal growth, fashion, health, beauty, zodiac signs etc.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We want to keep the website as a source of continuous entertainment and learning for all our office going friends. We are encouraged by the response we have got till now and would continue to innovate and improve our offerings.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We are still young in the business and we have lots of ideas still to be made public. Our goal is to let people benefit from our site both in terms of entertainment and knowledge and that in essence is the true indicator of our success.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We believe in continuous improvement and innovation. Unlimited budget would have helped us to speed up the offerings we have in store for our users.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We are a team of highly dedicated and motivated professionals and engineers. So, we are pretty confident of being able to keep pace with the demand without impacting the performance of our website.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
We have been fortunate not to have met any unmanageable headache till now.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting the word out about the website is the biggest challenge for anyone and it has definitely been our biggest challenge.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
We are still in the process of promoting our website. We are hopeful that we would soon be able to share the most successful way of promoting website with you. We are however focusing and relying on internet, local media and word of mouth publicity.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Frankly, there has not been a lot of expectation mismatch. We had planned and prepared for the challenges in advance. So, we are actually enjoying how the website popularity is coming along.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Our website has been up and running for four months now. We love our site and we would like to keep it up and running forever. Let’s see how it all comes along. We have firm belief that people reward innovation and that keeps up pretty optimistic.
