Business Money Today Interview

By Interviewer at 02/03/09 12:43

Name of your website?

Business Money Today

Your name?

Joseph Lizio

Your Location (city, etc)

Kerrville

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Business Money Today is designed to help business owners find and obtain capital for their businesses. Here, they can find information regarding products that are available to them as well as search for companies that offer these products in their area or nationwide. Find better information so that you can make better choices!

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Having ran a business incubator in the past, I found that one of the hardest things a growing business faced was raising capital for growth. Thus, this site. It allows busy entrepreneurs to easily and quickly find the money they need to grow and succeed.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

First Launch october 2007 - it was this site. I have MBA in finance and have worked in corporate lending and finance most of my life. However, for this site I learned (self-taught) html, php/msqul, javascript. Not bad of a guy who likes numbers.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I played with several names - but I thought Business Money Today was relevant to both topic and search and was available.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We are more focused on providing information to help business owners. We do have some advertising and affiliate but we have to pay for the hosting and overhead.

Most sites either capture your information and send that out to companies that help them not you (the business owner) or try to sell you something you don't need with the promise of getting something you do need.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I want this site to be the WebMD of business finance. Something that I keep and am proud of.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Well, still relatively new so not much money spent (as I do most of the work myself). Site visitors are growing daily and I know with persistance and patience, we will meet our goals.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

More professional looking site. I am a finance guy and like things in boxes - so, it is a stretch to be really creative. Would like the site to look more professional with tons more content.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, I am dedicated to this site and the information and resources it provides. Plus, would hire people as needed.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

The main headache is trying to learn html, php/mysql. Learning what these programs can do and then figuring out how to make them do what I want.

Most of my costs are in hosting.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Self teaching myself html, php/mysql. Hard to code somethign if 1) you don't know if the program can do it and 2) how to make it happen.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Back links - most are organic on my site - I do not pay for them and from forum discussions.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It is never ending. I don't sleep and there is always something else that needs to be done.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Have been up for more than 18 months. Curent version just a few months. This siute is something I beleive in and know to be needed. Thus, I will continue this site even if I don't have big gains, income or popularity - although those would be nice. This is a passion of mine. Success would be nice but it is not required.

What is your biggest success so far?

Just teaching myself to program. I just amaze myself when i figure something out and get it to work. Make me think I am invenicible. Just so cool to learn and execute something.

What is your website address?
